Our story

We both dedicated our lives to follow Jesus whatever and wherever He would lead us in our teens, and before meeting, had each spent the entirety of our adult life working in churches. As a married couple, we pioneered a church plant in Osaka, then another in Miyagi, where we pastored for many years before, during, and after the Great Tohoku earthquake. Later we worked in Tochigi at the HQ of our church network

Years of faithful labor didn’t seem to be leading to the results we had hoped for. We felt discouraged about the spiritual state of the nation, and took a step back for a season to hear from God about what we were to do next. He began to show us that there is another way.

“COME DEEPER INTO MY HEART.”

This is the invitation we heard from Him.

We refocused, from what we do to Who we walk with, from allowing the demands and activities of ministry to dictate our life, to letting our attention rest fully on the One who is leading us and following Him. We realized that God is more interested in us, jealous over us in fact, than He is interested in the outward impact of our ministry measured in size and numbers.

Our prayer became, "What is on your heart, Lord?"

We were open to anything and anywhere He wanted. We even wondered if our season in Japan was coming to an end. But then He placed Japan on our hearts in a fresh way. We began to dream of what could be—a different spiritual landscape for the next generation. And we began to pray for a place where His presence rests in central Tokyo. Not a building—a people. A people who know how to steward His presence.

This is why we started WILDBRANCH.

It's an invitation to pursue the One Thing—beholding the beauty of Jesus, inquiring in His presence, finding your life in Him.
